WORCESTER Cathedral has been transformed by an immersive Son-et-Lumiere (sound and light show) throughout the week.

Visitors have the opportunity to walk through the cathedral and admire various light displays while music plays around them.

The show is science-themed and was created by award-winning artistic duo ‘Luxmuralis’ – made up of sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper.

Matthew Collingwood came to see the cathedral with his family.

He said: "It is fantastic.

"We moved to Worcester about two years ago and this is our first time setting foot inside of the cathedral.

"The show is absolutely stunning. You have really got to see it to appreciate it.

"We will definitely be coming back."

Kathryn Burfitt also loved seeing the cathedral's interior lit up.

She said: "I thought it was really good.

"I had been expecting to sit down and watch a show but it has been really interesting to get to walk through the cathedral and see the lights.

"It must be especially great for little kids and it is a way of getting money in for the cathedral.

"I would come back next year and bring my younger niece along too."

Alex Sheppard and Ruth Pierson, two biology graduates from the University of Worcester, came to appreciate the science theme.

Mr Sheppard said: "It has been really beautiful and immersive.

"It is nice to be able to walk around the cathedral to experience the different displays."

Visitors can walk through a planned route of the cathedral to see various light shows as well as posters with information celebrating female scientists.

An addition to the show this year is the opening of the cloisters and the chapter house, extending the route of the show.

Stephen Edwards, Vice-Dean of Worcester Cathedral, said: “Projects like this are very exciting and important for the cathedral as they allow visitors to experience our magnificent building in a very different way.

"We are extremely grateful to Westhill Endowment for once again helping to fund this project.

“We’re delighted to welcome Luxmuralis back following the success of the SPACE installation last year."

The light show will be at Worcester Cathedral until Saturday, September 24.
