PEOPLE hoping to bask in some warm sunshine in Worcestershire over the bank holiday weekend will have to wait until Monday for the best of the weather.

Worcester News weather expert Paul Damari is predicting a mixed bag for the next few days building up to warm dry spell at the beginning of next week.

Temperatures are expected to reach 20 degrees C (68 degrees F) on Monday and Tuesday giving a clear indication that spring is here and summer is not too far away.

"There will be various amounts of cloud on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Saturday will be a bit nondescript. There will be quite a bit of dry weather during the day with light showers later and overnight and on Sunday.

"Monday will start a bit grey and brighten up. There won't be too much rain," said Mr Damari. "On Sunday and Monday, with gentle southerly winds, it will get progressively more humid and warm.

"It will be quite pleasant in the sunshine. As we go into next weekend, high pressure will begin to dominate."

Mr Damari added that the weather would not be disruptive and people should be able to enjoy their bank holiday, whether they were out and about or doing some work in the garden.

The positive start to May is in sharp contrast to April's weather when Worcester had 73.3mm of rain, which is 158.6 per cent of the average.

Mr Damari said his records show there were just two rain-free days this April and over 15mm fell on Tuesday April 29, which is a third of April's normal monthly rainfall in just one day.

In April 2007 there was just 9.9mm of rain for the entire month - 21.4 per cent of the normal rainfall.

Average daytime temperatures were up by 0.8 degrees C this April at 13.5 degrees C and this was mainly due to several warm days towards the end of the month. On Sunday, April 6, the city woke up to snowfall.

Mr Damari said there had been a bit of everything in April - snow, heavy rain, cold easterly winds and warm sunny days.
