A BANK Holiday charity cricket tournament will take place in memory of a Worcester man who died of cancer.

When Phil Knight died, aged just 39, in August 2004 he left his wife, Lesley, and nine-year-old daughter Jess.

Earlier this year, your Worcester News told their story, and how Worcestershire charity Noah's Ark Trust had helped them cope with the loss.

It was that article, part of our ongoing campaign supporting the bereavement charity, that prompted family friend Sarah Keyte into action.

The 31 year old of Camberwell Drive, St Peter's, Worcester, knew Mr Knight through Worcester Cricket Club.

"When I took over as fundraising manager at the club and I wanted to raise some money for them," she said.

"Then, I read the article, and I realised we could still do something - we could play cricket and split the money between the club and Noah's Ark.

"Phil was a very important member of club playing wise and socially.

"I thought that this tournament would be a good way to remember him doing something that he loved - and also raise money for a charity that help the people that he loved."

Earlier this year your Worcester News launched its Towards A Brighter Future campaign to find a new home for Worcester bereavement charity Noah's Ark.

The tournament, which takes place at the Gordon Jones Memorial Ground, Brockhill Lane, Norton, tomorrow, will pit eight teams against each other.

There will be refreshments and a raffle.
