A 43-year-old man has been arrested at a city home after he was detained by the homeowner.

The arrest in Lansdowne Crescent, Worcester, comes after police arrested another suspect mid-break-in last week in connection with attempted burglary.

There have been a string of similar raids across Worcester, some involving patio doors being smashed, many near London Road or in the WR5 postcode.

DI Dave Knight of South Worcestershire Proactive CID said on Tuesday: "This afternoon a 43-year-old local male was arrested at a house in Lansdowne Crescent, Worcester having been detained inside the property by the homeowner.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently being detained at Worcester Police Station Custody being processed by Worcester Proactive CID."

The Worcester News understands that the homeowner took hold of the suspect until police arrived. Advice from the senior detective remains the same - to remain vigilant and call 999 in the event of a burglary in progress.

The suspect remains in custody and has yet to be charged. A 45-year-old man was arrested last week for attempted burglary after a call from a member of public in London Road.

We reported last Thursday how two more burglaries took place overnight on Wednesday night on top of five similar attacks in Worcester over the last 10 days.

The first of the recent spate of raids happened in the London Road and Newtown Road areas - in Calder Road, Stanley Road, Wylds Lane, Rose Hill and The Hill Avenue.

Burglaries took place at a shed in Ransom Avenue, off Bath Road, where someone attempted, but failed, to steal bikes. Another took place at Taylor's Lane, Broomhall where someone stole 'thousands of pounds worth of equipment'.

While investigations continue, DI Knight has urged people in the city to take precautions to reduce their risk of becoming the victims of burglary.

He said timer lights were useful and that householders should make sure doors and windows are shut and locked.

People are advised to let neighbours know if they plan to go away for any length of time. They are also advised to avoid social media posts, advertising that they are away, for example on holiday.

Those with information can contact West Mercia Police on 101 or 999 if a burglary is in progress. Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers.
