WE hosted the Lenchton/Redditch/Saltway group of WIs on St George's Day.
It was an opportunity to share information about activities and outings as part of Worcestershire's 90th birthday celebrations. Members, wearing red, white and blue, gave a rousing welcome to Sir Robert, knight of the realm, and Squire Simon, visiting from Warwick Castle, who explained that St George's origins were actually somewhere in the Middle East.
He became a soldier in the Roman army, was said to have earned the displeasure of the emperor for his support of the Christians, and was killed.
