A FIRE broke out at a fish and chip shop on Bath Road in Worcester.

Fire crews and an ambulance were called to Bath Road Chippy this morning (Tuesday).

Staff said it would be closing temporarily but would be reopening "shortly".

Firefighters were called to reports of a building fire on the road at just after 11.20am.

They discovered a chip pan fire and managed to extinguish it using two fire blankets.

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue said the crews also used two pressure ventilation to clear smoke.

Firefighters also used thermal imaging cameras to check for hotspots.

A commuter driving past the incident said:" I was driving past and saw two fire engines in the car park.

"There were members of the fire service out of their vehicles and on the footpath."
