ISSUES with school-run parking has sparked calls for better enforcement to protect pupils.

Readers responding to a previous article about cars parked on double yellow lines in Little London said it is an issue outside a number of schools.

Several cars were pictured parked illegally behind RGS Worcester with calls for enforcement in the area.

Parents were called the "worst offenders" for putting other children at risk with their parking.

Responding to the story, Helen Alina said: "Not the only school with parking problems and parents parking on double yellow lines etc most schools in the UK have issues with parking."

Jane Baker claimed is it a common occurrence at many schools across Worcester.

She said: "This isn’t just this school my daughter's primary was the same and that wasn’t private.

"Parents would park on double yellows, block driveways and leave their cars and park on the pavements even when there wasn’t room for other cars to pass and some not stopping at a zebra crossing.

"I’ve also witnessed coaches at all schools park on double yellows or the zig-zag lines, blocking the view to zebra crossings and making it dangerous."

Some called for better enforcement outside all schools while others defended the school, based near the city centre.

Summer Santilli said: "These schools when built didn't have the level of traffic."

Sam Gardner said that the issues have been happening outside RGS Worcester "for years".

She said: "Going on for years, they park right up to crossing, blocking safe driving for all and safety of the kids crossing.

"No signalling when ready to move and just pull out then look as if the driver on the road already is in the wrong. Then dish out abuse.

"I try to avoid this area but they are just as bad when dropping their kids off opposite the main entrance down The Tything."

Kate Hill said: "I live around the corner and it’s happened consistently for years. Most annoying is when they leave engines idling whilst waiting to pick up.

"I drop my own child off at another school (sadly not fee-paying) and never park on double yellow lines to do so."

Previously, a spokesperson for RGS Worcester said at the beginning of term, it reminded parents it takes the safety of its pupils and pedestrians "very seriously".

The school asked parents to take "particular care" when dropping off or collecting students.

"It is important we consider other road users and local residents and ensure that their driveways and access are not blocked at any time."
