PASSERS-by could not believe their eyes when a runaway calf ran around Droitwich town centre.
The calf, which is just a few weeks old, was eventually rounded up and captured by police officers.
It had been reported loose at 10.45am and was seen outside Droitwich Library in Victoria Square, Worcester Road, and Corbett Avenue, before it was eventually caught in Lyttleton Avenue.
It was PC Steve Bennett, who deals with many animal-related incidents in south Worcestershire, who eventually caught the calf.
He said: "Our first concern was for the welfare of the animal and the harm it could do to itself and people in these circumstances.
"I think people in the town centre were amazed to see a young calf running around. But we eventually got hold of the animal, which was very distressed after its ordeal, although luckily it seemed uninjured."
The calf was returned to its owners at Dodderhill Farm from where it had escaped earlier in the day.
