CHILDREN, parents volunteers and coaches from Malvern and surrounding areas will see their dream come true when a top British gymnast goes along to open their new gym club premises tomorrow.
The members and organisers of the Malvern Hills Gymnastic Club, which was established eight years ago, have been looking for a permanent home for the club over the past five years.
The club, which started with 15 children and now boasts 200 members, has used various venues including a number of schools in the town but was unable to find a single permanent site until this year.
The club has now moved into the Clifton Centre, Spring Lane South, Malvern, and Olympic gymnast and 2006 World Champion on the asymmetric bars Beth Tweddle will be officially opening the club premises tomorrow.
Club director and coach Lorraine Barson said: "We have been going around looking at different buildings for the past five years.
"This place came up for lease and we went to look at it. The parents and Malvern Lions Club have been fantastic in helping us and the kitchen has been donated by Ace Kitchens in Malvern.
"The district council has helped a lot with the paperwork and the publicity.
"It is absolutely fantastic. All we need now is a sprung floor and a D pit to practice landings and we can do that later. We cannot wait for the opening with Beth Tweddle."
She said the best part of having their own venue was being able to leave the equipment out rather than having to pack it away after each session. The children and adult members can now enjoy full three-hour coaching sessions.
