THE conservation areas in Great Malvern and Tenbury Wells are to be extended following recent reviews by a firm of consultants and discussions with local groups and residents.
The firm Scott Wilson reviewed the conservation areas in Great Malvern, Upton-upon-Severn and Tenbury Wells last October and recommended some additional areas in Malvern and Tenbury should be included.
The Great Malvern conservation area was last reviewed 10 years ago when changes were made to the boundary.
The Malvern Hills District Council planning committee has now approved the consultants' recommendations to include the semi-detached Victorian housing along Gilbert Road, Wilton Road, Lower Wilton Road and the cemetery at Madresfield Road as well as an area around the junction of Court Road and Thirlestaine Road on the east side of the railway line.
The Tenbury Wells conservation area was designated in 1969 and had not been reviewed since then.
The committee accepted the consultants' proposals to exclude the modern residential development of St Mary's Close and extend to west boundary to include the early 20th century villa development along Berrington Road.
The medieval burgage plots on the east of the conservation area will also be included.
The consultants did not feel any changes were needed to the Upon conservation area.
