A MAN who was over the limit, crashed into a car, then ran off into a garden has been disqualified from driving.

Witnesses saw Alan Doughty in a Vauxhall Astra van pull out from a crossroads and into the path of a BMW on Sunday, March 23, in Hanley Swan, near Malvern.

They said the Astra was going so quickly they did not think it was going to stop, and then saw it leave the road and plough through a hedge.

Doughty ran off into a garden and hid until police found him in the bushes, when he then became abusive towards the officers and started kicking out at them.

When he was taken to Worcester police station a breath test revealed he had 89mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 35mcg.

Doughty, 53, of Lickhill Road North, Stourport-on-Severn, pleaded guilty to drink-driving, resisting a police officer, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident, when he appeared at the city's Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 22.

David Taylor, defending, said: "He has been man enough to face up to what he did. He is ashamed of his conduct.

"Since the incident he has not consumed a single drink. He has taken stock of his life."

Doughty was disqualified from driving for two years and made the subject of a one-year community order.

The order has two conditions - a supervision requirement for 12 months and he must attend the drink-impaired drivers' course.

He was ordered to pay £60 court costs.
