A NUMBER of buses have been destroyed in a fire over night.

The buses, believed to be used for school runs and local services, were housed in the Linton Trading Estate in Bromyard.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service was called to the scene at 11.27pm. Crews from Bromyard, Leominster, Hereford and Leintwardine battled with the blaze which spread between the parked buses.

An environmental protection unit was also at the scene to prevent run-off into water courses.

Between 11 and 14 buses, owned by Martin Perry, have been either severely damaged or destroyed.

Alec Mackie, spokesman for the fire service, said: "They did have a fire there a couple of years ago. The company put in place a number of fire preventative measures including building a wall on the premises.

"These measures did prevent further damage to the trading estate last night."

An investigation into the cause of the fire is being launched by the fire service and West Mercia Police at 9am today.
