YOUNGSTERS in Worcester-shire are being invited to take part in a competition to make a film.
International development charity WaterAid is launching a competition for 12 to 16-year-old filmmakers, H2O Rep-orter. The challenge is to produce a five-minute or shorter length video on the importance of water or toilets and post this on YouTube.
The producers of the top two films will be able to spend a week visiting WaterAid's project work in Tanzania where they will direct a professional crew to make a film of their experience. The competition is funded by the Dutch Postcode Lottery and will see the two lucky winners joined by two Dutch young people of similar age.
"We are not looking just for technical brilliance. The competition is more about the idea behind the film which could even be shot on a mobile phone," said Paul Hethering-ton, H2O Reporter competition organiser. "We will also take into account the number of viewings a film gets when short-listing for the judges. The idea is to get young people thinking about why water and toilets are so important."
The project visit to Tanzania will be in the second week of August with the competition closing for entries on Saturday, June 7. To find out more about H2O Reporter log on to www.wateraid.org/ uk/learn_zone/h2o_reporter. The site promoting new film Nim's Island also links to the H2O Reporter page.
