WORCESTER Warriors' Sixways ground was awash with colour on Saturday as fans and club officials became pretty in pink' in aid of Breast Cancer Care.

The Guinness Premiership's nationwide Tackled Pink weekend was marked at Sixways with a variety of pink-themed events, as the club played its part in a fund-raising and awareness drive for the cancer charity.

Warriors fans dressed up in pink outfits for the club's Pink and Proud competition, with prizes up for grabs for the best-dressed fans. The club's Warrior match day programme had a special pink theme, and there were pink bars and stalls around the ground.

Although on the pitch the Warriors were narrowly defeated by visiting Bath, the off-field antics were deemed a great success.

The charity's cause is one particularly close to the heart of the Warriors' international prop Chris Horsman, who has twice battled back from life-threatening cancer to resume his career.

"I think the Tackled Pink theme is really fantastic," he said. "The whole Guinness Premiership has really bought into it, which is magnificent. We can truly raise awareness, and that is crucially important with illnesses such as cancer.

"I have seen people get embarrassed about the whole situation because it is such a serious illness. I think people almost shy away from it. It's important for people to say the word cancer' and not get embarrassed.

"The more people we can get talking about it, the more likely people are to go to their doctors, and check themselves and take the right attitude to it. People must not be afraid to speak about it and be open about it, so Tackled Pink is huge."

Saturday's pink' theme extended to offering female Warriors' fans specially discounted entry, and part of the matchday proceeds will now be donated directly to Breast Cancer Care.
