A MAN will receive financial compensation and a formal apology from a Worcester restaurant he says served him food to which he was allergic.
Neil Coombes has a nut allergy and after eating a takeaway chicken jalfrezi from Massalla Lounge, in Broad Street, Worcester, he had to spend six hours in hospital.
The 28-year-old toolmaker of St John's, Worcester, who said he asked staff whether the dish contained nuts before he ordered it, had to be injected with hydrocortisone and adrenaline and was put on a saline drip.
Although Massalla Lounge has denied giving Mr Coombes a dish containing nuts, it has now offered him a formal letter of apology, £70 compensation and two tickets to a charity night it is organising next month.
Mr Coombes, who has been allergic to nuts since childhood, said: "It's OK and I'm fine now."
Restaurant manager Rusal Khayyum said: "We're very upset by what has happened. We want to give the customer compensation and have also sent him tickets to our event in aid of the Red Cross. We still want to do out bit for the community and hope this incident does not put people off."
The fund-raising night on Tuesday, May 6, is called Come Rain or Shine and it will feature Indian drummers, live music from Worcestershire-based bands Strange Machine and Mutmeista, a charity raffle and dinner.
For tickets, priced £20, telephone 01905 729955.
