A POLISH man has been fined for driving a car that could have caused "injury or death" and had his car scrapped.

Marcin Majewski appeared in court after a series of faults were found with his unroadworthy 16-year-old BMW.

Majewski, aged 32, of Wyld's Lane, Worcester, appeared before magistrates in Worcester on Thursday and spoke to them with the aid of an interpreter, admitting he had an unroadworthy car.

Gemma Goode, prosecuting, said a number of faults were found on the car to the handbrake and tyres.

Paul Vaughan, the chairman of the bench, said he hoped he would be in a roadworthy car for his return to Poland.

He added: "This is a very serious offence. A vehicle in this condition could have caused injury or death to you or to innocent road users. The court takes a very dim view of a vehicle in this terrible condition being driven on the roads.

The fact that the vehicle has been scrapped is the only comfort to me and my colleagues."

Majewski told magistrates he had limited cash and planned to return to Poland today, getting a lift with friends.

Magistrates ordered that he pay a £100 fine and £15 victim surcharge, endorsed his licence with three penalty points and waived costs because of his limited means.

He was given credit for his early gulity plea.
