A POPULAR city running event has been cancelled due to a "fallen tree".

The Worcester Park Run, which was due to be held at the Countryside Centre, was called due to safety concerns surrounding the fallen tree.

The event is a free, weekly, timed 5k walk/jog/run at 9am every Saturday.

A Facebook post on The Worcester Park Run page from yesterday said: "Due to a fallen tree we will have to cancel tomorrow's Worcester Park Run at the Countryside Centre.

"Your safety is our primary concern and there's no safe way to pass the fallen tree. Thank you to parkrunner Tony who let us know so we could go and inspect, after work.

"Apologies for any plans you may have made we are all gutted as it was Gerry's 400th, so it's a rollover to next week."

The Worcester Park Run is open to all ages and abilities and is entirely organised by volunteers.

Last week, the runners at the event took part in a minute silence in remembrance of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
