AN intrepid Worcester woman is donning her walking boots to scale the highest mountain in Africa and raise money for children across the world.
Kate Iddon, 20, of Britannia Square, Worcester, is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in the summer and hopes to raise £1,400 for Save the Children.
As well as the mountain climb, the Durham University student will spend two weeks taking part in a local community project.
"I am really looking forward to the climb," she said. "But I think I am looking forward to helping out in the community more.
"We will be teaching and living with local families. I have never really done anything like that before."
She has already started training for the climb, which will take 10 days to scale to the 19,340ft peak known as the roof of Africa'.
Together with 19 other students from Durham University, where Miss Iddon is a second year German student, she is holding fundraising events in a bid to reach the £1,400 target.
"We have been going into Durham city centre with buckets and had sponsored nights at nightclubs," she said.
The former Kings School student has also held cake sales and plans to stand outside Newcastle United's St James' Park shaking buckets on match days.
