TWO workmen came to the rescue of a teenage boy whose bike was stolen from him in the city.
Dave Harding and his colleague were parked in Hylton Road, Worcester, in their work van when they heard shouts coming from Sabrina bridge.
When they looked over they saw a boy on a bike racing down the steps with another boy in hot pursuit. Once on the riverside footpath in Hylton Road the boy on the bike turned around and hit the pursuing lad - the owner of the bike - to the ground.
Mr Harding and his colleague Grant Robinson, who were installing cables at BBC Hereford & Worcester for National Midland Construction, chased the boy into Homebase car park where they accosted him and demanded to know whose bike it was. After a while he admitted it was not his, and Mr Harding was able to take it back to the boy.
"He was very upset and crying. We felt sorry for the lad," said Mr Harding.
The incident, which was not reported to the police, happened at 1pm on Monday, April 14.
A spokeswoman for South Worcestershire police said: "We would like the thank the workmen for their quick thinking. We would urge anyone in this situation to call the police and report the offence as soon as possible."
