A TEENAGER who kicked a lit firework around a public park said he was "messing around" with friends.

Ashley Dunn, =18, was in Dukes Meadow Playing Fields, off Pickersleigh Road, Malvern, when police officers saw him light three 'banger'.

At Worcester Magistrates Court prosecutor Gemma Goode said there were young children in the public space at the time.

"It was about 4.15pm, the defendant was seen in the basketball court with three other youths," she said.

"On the court were three children playing, aged 10 to 12.

"Police were in a near-by property dealing with other business but had a clear view.

"The defendant was seen to hold the fireworks as they flamed and sparked, to drop them on the floor and then kick one around while it was still alight."

Representing himself, Dunn, of Skyrold Road, Malvern, said he was "messing around with a couple of mates."

Magistrates ordered the teenager, who already owes £134 to the court, to pay a £100 fine, £50 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
