A NEW health walks group has been formed in Droitwich following a successful appeal for volunteers to train as leaders.

Walks will start at 10.30am every Wednesday from Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre at Briar Mill, off Ombersley Road.

The walks - which are designed to improve health and reduce social isolation - have been organised by Worcestershire County Council, working in partnership with Worcestershire Primary Care Trust, Droitwich Spa Area Local Strategic Partnership, Wychavon Leisure and Droitwich Canals Restoration Partnership, Elinor Newman, volunteer administrator for the Spa Walkers, said: "There are some wonderful local paths, green spaces and canal towpaths around Droitwich for the group to explore.

"The leisure centre is an ideal venue for the walks to end because people can stay and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat."

Alison Williams, health walks and community access officer for Worcestershire County Council's Countryside Service and the Worcestershire Primary Care Trust, said: "Walking is the simplest and most natural form of exercise and it is an excellent way of improving health."
