DI Dave Knight of Pro-active CID said: "A 45-year-old local man was arrested this afternoon by city police patrol officers for attempted burglary after a call from a member of public in London Road, Worcester.

"We are considering other offences in the area that this individual could be responsible for but I'd ask the community to remain vigilant. Thank you to the community for the calls we have had helping us identify this suspect.

"South Worcestershire Proactive CID are managing the ongoing investigation and processing the suspect in Worcester Police Station Custody.

This morning DI Knight provided an update, saying the suspect has been released on bail and placed on a curfew to allow for further evidence to be gathered.

We reported yesterday (Thursday) how two more burglaries took place overnight on Wednesday night on top of five similar attacks in Worcester over the last 10 days.

The first of the recent spate of raids happened in the London Road and Newtown Road areas - in Calder Road, Stanley Road, Wylds Lane, Rose Hill and The Hill Avenue.

Most of these burglaries in the WR5 postcode involved forced entry and patio doors were smashed.

The latest burglaries were at a shed in Ransom Avenue, off Bath Road, where someone attempted, but failed, to steal bikes. Another took place at Taylor's Lane, Broomhall where someone stole 'thousands of pounds worth of equipment'.

While investigations continue, DI Knight has urged people in the city to take precautions to reduce their risk of becoming the victims of burglary.

He said timer lights were useful and that householders should make sure doors and windows are shut and locked.

Letting neighbours know if you plan to go away for any length of time and avoiding social media posts, advertising that you are away on holiday, may also reduce risk.

DI Knight has already requested any CCTV from residents.

He said: "I would like to see any CCTV footage which may help us identify the offender or offenders. In the meantime, if anyone sees anything suspicious, they can contact us on 101 or via Crimestoppers.

"If it's a crime in action contact us on 999."
