DEMANDS for facilities have been made by a trade union amid complaints bushes are being used as toilets by lorry drivers.
People have claimed a stench can be smelled along Wainwright Road, Warndon Villages, as human waste was discovered in hedges.
The GMB Union, which represents drivers, called the lack of facilities a "national disgrace" and called for European-style stops.
Warndon Wombles litter-picking group recently criticised the lack of facilities on the road after finding soiled toilet paper, faecal matter and urine in bottles, believed to be discarded by lorry drivers.
The GMB Union believes the lack of facilities is the main reason why more drivers are not joining the industry.
Andy Prendergast, GMB national secretary, said: "GMB believes the lack of decent facilities for lorry drivers is one of the major reasons why people are not coming into the industry.
"Compare our often bleak, unsanitary facilities to the clean, subsidised stops in Europe and it is clear the ones in the UK are not fit for purpose.
"The impact is felt not only by the drivers but by local communities having to clear up the mess.
"The current situation is a national disgrace and one that needs to be addressed both for the lorry drivers and the local communities they serve."
GMB is a trade union that represents all workers, with over 500,000 members who work in every type of job across public services and private companies.

A Worcester News reader that commented on the story claimed to have seen drivers "urinating and worse" on Wainwright Road.
Ryan Smith said: "Anyone who works at Mazak, Bosch and Royal Mail will have no doubt experienced the stench from the hedges along Wainwright Road.
"I have caught many lorry drivers urinating or worse in the hedges and leaving their filled bottles behind.
"A lorry site for overnight stays would be a good investment, somewhere to shower, use the toilet, eat and sleep in the cab overnight."
