HOUSE burglaries may be raids by one or two brazen city criminals as police appeal for CCTV footage to help catch the culprits.

Two more burglaries took place overnight last night on top of five similar attacks in Worcester over the last 10 days.

The first of the recent spate of raids happened in the London Road and Newtown Road areas - in Calder Road, Stanley Road, Wylds Lane, Rose Hill and The Hill Avenue.

As previously reported, most of these burglaries in the WR5 postcode involved forced entry and patio doors were smashed.

DI Dave Knight of South Worcestershire Proactive CID has now confirmed there have been more burglaries and has given advice on how people can protect their property and help officers catch those responsible.

Overnight last night there were burglaries at a shed in Ransom Avenue, off Bath Road, where someone attempted, but failed, to steal bikes and another at Taylor's Lane, Broomhall where someone stole 'thousands of pounds worth of equipment'.

DI Dave Knight, based at Worcester Police Station in Castle Street, said officers were exploring the possibility that these latest raids were linked to the earlier ones.

He said: "We're keeping an open mind but any offences in the WR5 postcode were probably carried out by the same suspect  or suspects."

While investigations continue, he urged people in the city to take precautions to reduce their risk of becoming the victims of burglary.

He said timer lights were useful and that householders should make sure doors and windows are shut and locked.

Letting neighbours know if you plan to go away for any length of time and avoiding social media posts, advertising that you are away on holiday, may also reduce risk.

DI Knight said the burglar or burglars appeared to be on foot and had been stealing 'anything they could carry'.

He said: "I would like to see any CCTV footage which may help us identify the offender or offenders. In the meantime, if anyone sees anything suspicious, they can contact us on 101 or via Crimestoppers.

"If it's a crime in action contact us on 999."
