THE landlords of a popular pub will open its doors at 10am to pay their respects to The Queen on Bank Holiday Monday. 

The Queen's state funeral will take place on Monday (September 19) and people from across the nation will be paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth II. 

New Chequers on Astwood Road is inviting customers to join them at 10am to celebrate "the life of our beautiful Queen".

The owners are inviting people from across Worcester to raise a glass for the late Queen Elizabeth and broadcast the state funeral from the pub. 

Landlady Zara Clelland, who runs the pub with her fiance Lee Payne, will be cooking food for people throughout the day.

Emma Lambert, bar manager, said: "We wanted to do something to celebrate the Queen's life. 

"Community should stick together at times like this and we don't do it often enough.

"We stuck together during Covid and got together to clap for the NHS. 

"It's good that people can get together to pay our respects and celebrate her life. 

"It's a chance for us to come together."

The pub will be serving food throughout the day and will be raising a glass to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Mrs Lambert said: "Zara is a Michelin chef so she will be making homemade food, there will be something for everyone." 

The staff are inviting anybody and everybody who wants to pay homage to the Queen to the pub on Monday 

"Everybody is welcome, we will be wearing black behind the bar alongside something with the Union Jack.

"We are all going to have a complimentary drink and then raise a glass and pay homage to the Queen after the service."

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for the New Chequers said: "Monday 19th Queens funeral.

"We will be opening our doors at 10am for the funeral service of our Queen.

"We will be putting out complimentary food.

"We hope you can all join us in celebrating the life of our beautiful Queen."

Several businesses across Worcester will close so staff can pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth who passed away on Thursday, September 8 at Balmoral.
