A MAN has been left seriously hurt after a stabbing in a city street with neighbours hearing loud screams of terror.
The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham with serious injuries after the attack in St Mark's Close, Cherry Orchard.
Police are carrying out door-to-door enquiries tonight (Thursday) as terrified neighbours describe hearing the man's cries for help.
They rushed to help after he collapsed in the street.
One resident, Leon Harris, said: "Basically I was just in the house and I heard this scream.
"I looked out and the guy was shouting and walking around.
"He came down the road just across from my house and I heard him shout “I’ve been stabbed, I’ve been stabbed”
"He was holding on to a bin and a girl came over to help him
"Then he said “I’ve got to lie down” and then fell to the floor
"The girl called the ambulance and then other neighbours came out and put pressure on the area he’d been stabbed
"About 15 minutes later a paramedic car arrived, then police and ambulance soon after and took him to the hospital
"It was really shocking, especially for this neighbourhood."
An air ambulance was called to the scene and a police guard stood alongside a cordoned-off alleyway.
