The FINALISTS of the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards 2022 have been announced.
The awards are being staged by Newsquest – publishers of the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette, Evesham Journal, Bromsgrove & Droitwich and Redditch Advertisers and The Shuttle in conjunction with the University of Worcester.
Judging is now complete and the three finalists of The Domiciliary Care Worker Award category can be revealed.
The Domiciliary Care Worker Award is sponsored by Caremark – an established and highly regarded home care provider whose dedicated staff offer home care, personal support, home help and companionship services for adults and older people, those with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, as well as children and young people.
The awards will culminate in a celebrity-backed virtual ceremony streamed on the Worcester News Facebook page on Thursday, October 13 at 7pm when the winner of each category will be announced.
One of our finalists is the Hospice at Home team, ran by St Richard's Hospice in Worcester.
It's a small team of staff that provides hands on care to people in their own homes. They also help families of those with a long-term conditions who need support to provide care.
The team has been described as "true heroes" who are "compassionate, caring, committed and professional."
Maria Kavanagh, gateway team leader at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “I am absolutely delighted the Hospice at Home Team has made it to the finals of the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards.
“This team of compassionate, caring and professional healthcare assistants provide round-the-clock care to patients in their own homes.
“The care they give is tailored to each individual, and, wherever possible, they support patients to be in their place of choice at the end of their lives.
“I am so proud of the work this team does to care for patients with serious, progressive illnesses and their loved ones too.”
Finalist Vivienne Rogers, manager of Old Friends Care Limited based in Redditch, has been recognised for her "genuine caring nature."
The 43-year-old from Matchborough has been praised for her "outstanding" care work.
Kevin McNally, who nominated her for the award, said: "As the Registered Manager of a Home Care Provider - Viv is responsible for 40-50 Home Support Workers, 10 Managers and Support Staff - who care for 200 or so vulnerable and elderly people.
"The essence of Viv's core beliefs are magnified through the people that she leads and the benefits are also magnified - as acknowledged by CQC overall rating "Outstanding".
Vivienne said: "I have always applied my core beliefs of always treating a person with dignity and respect and to always deliver the high standard of care that I would wish for my own family members to receive".
Another one of our finalists is carer Chloe McCafferty who works at Ashwell Home Care Services in Malvern.
The 24-year-old from Worcester has been described as "practical, sensible and passionate about clients receiving the very best care".
Rachel Davis, who nominated Chloe for the award, said: "Chloe does a lot of research in her own time to understand conditions that our clients have - and how she can best help.
"Chloe is brilliant at building relationships and helping clients to overcome their fear of first time care visits".
Reacting to being shortlisted for the Domiciliary Care Worker Award, Chloe said: "I feel incredibly grateful given that there are so many great carers that work for Ashwell Home Care Services and it's lovely to get the validation, as a person who had no previous care experience, that I am having a positive impact in my job".
