A restaurant is set to open in part of a former city fire station.
The bays of Worcester’s historic Copenhagen Street fire station are set to be converted into Marisco Grill Restaurant under plans by developer Guthrie Roberts.
The latest food destination to come to Worcester city centre will include a bar, a fish and charcuterie counter and a café.
The restaurant is expected to be open by spring 2023.
Ben Roberts, managing director of Guthrie Roberts, said: “We are very excited to announce a lease arrangement with Marisco at our commercial area of the old fire station.
“Covering some 350 square metres, it will be accessed from Copenhagen Street, where the current fire engine bay entrances will be renovated to create eye-catching frontages.
“This is a very desirable location with the High Street adjacent and Copenhagen Street being the main pedestrian thoroughfare from the river to the city centre.
"With our residential apartments now mainly complete, with two floors of the main building now finished and only three apartments remaining for sale for the whole site, this will be the final piece in the project.
“It is anticipated that this dynamic mouth-watering venture will be open in spring 2023.”
The new plans have been revealed by Malvern-based developer Guthrie Roberts which has recently converted the fire station into luxury apartments as part of multi-million-pound work after lying largely empty for several years.
Last year, it was revealed that Richard Everton, who owns wine bar Bottles in New Street, was the man behind plans to convert the ground floor of the former fire station into a new food hall including space for crepes and pastries, tapas, rotisserie chicken, a delicatessen and a large selection of beer and wine.
The food hall deal later fell through with Mr Everton turning his efforts to his then new shop in Reindeer Court off New Street.
Work continues to convert Worcester High Street’s former Debenhams store into a new food hall with an opening date still unknown.
The food hall, which is set to include a farmer’s market, food stands and shops, was expected to open in June.
