A MAN drove at around 70mph in a 30mph zone before crashing into a car, injuring two, and running away from the scene.
Thug Alan Cornes, who was jailed in 2015 for smashing his partner's head on the floor of a Worcester car park, admitted failing to stop after a road accident and driving without due care and attention when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.
Andy Saunders, prosecuting, said at 10.15pm on February 18 this year Cornes was driving an Audi A5 on Temeside Way, Worcester, on a stretch which had a 30mph speed limit at the time.
The prosecutor said Cornes overtook a BMW at high speed - an eyewitness estimating at around 70mph.
"After overtaking, he overtook a Volkswagen Scirocco in front of the BMW," Mr Saunders said.
"Mr Cornes suddenly saw ahead a stationary queue of traffic, built up at temporary traffic lights.
"He cut in front (of the Volkswagen) but was unable to stop in time."
The prosecutor said Cornes crashed into the back of a Nissan, despite the driver Adam Kilgallon flashing his break lights at Cornes.
Mr Kilgallon and passenger Emily Price, who were wearing seatbelts, were thrown forward from the impact, the court heard.
The prosecutor said Cornes ran from the scene, leaving no details with anyone.
He said Mr Kilgallon suffered neck and back pain, spending 18 hours in hospital being treated for whiplash, while Ms Price suffered a broken nose and concussion.
Alan Cornes told magistrates he ran away from crash scene as he "got scared"
Cornes, of The Village, Powick, provided a guilty plea in writing to the court, in which he said sorry for the hurt and upset he caused.
The court clerk asked Cornes, who represented himself, if there was anything he wanted to add to which he replied: "I do apologise, that night I made some wrong decisions and wrong choices."

The civil engineer explained he left the scene because he knew he was on licence, after being released from prison, adding he "got scared".
Nicola Phillips, the chairman of the magistrates bench, told Cornes that they needed an "all options" probation report for sentence.
The 44-year-old, who was given unconditional bail, was told to return for his sentencing on October 5.
The chairman added: "I do have to warn you that this a very serious offence."
The case was heard on Wednesday, (August 31).
We reported in 2015 Cornes was jailed for the attack on his girlfriend - when he left her unconscious, suffering a bleed of her brain.
The judge at the time said Cornes was dangerous enough to be given an extended licence period of three years, and ordered he serve at least two-thirds of a six-year term.
