A MUM was horrified to discover a burglar had been creeping around her home while her family slept - armed with a large knife from her kitchen.
Burglars broke into the family home on Timberdine Avenue, Battenhall, overnight between Tuesday, August 30 and Wednesday, August 31.
A blue Mini, handbag and other items were stolen from the family during the burglary.
The mum said the scariest part of the ordeal was waking up and finding a 10-inch knife missing from her kitchen.

She said: "Obviously it isn't very nice knowing a stranger has broken into our home and then picked the biggest, sharpest knife to wander around the house with.
"There were four of us here, me, my husband and two of our kids, both aged 22.
"It is very worrying that they would arm themselves.
"Our son sleeps downstairs so that’s really disturbing that he was in an adjoining bedroom.
"Our neighbours have a five-year-old, what if it had been them? Our other neighbours are elderly."
The family had only realised what happened the following morning when a neighbour came and knocked on the front door after finding the knife and other items in their garden.

She said: "We only realised it had happened when our neighbour knocked on our front door to tell us my handbag was in their front garden.
"£100 was stolen from my purse, but they were obviously not keen gardeners as they left a garden centre voucher, which was with the money they clearly took the time to separate them.
"My neighbour reported someone in their back garden during the week and another person on Camphill Road told me there had been someone in her neighbour’s garden last week too. But these were both during the day."
When she found out the car had been stolen, she jokingly added: "I felt that I want my car to spontaneously burst into a fireball with them inside".
