WANT to work in the arts? Then an alternative careers fair for young people with creative flair could tell you how to go about it.

The Creative Industries Career Event, now in its second year, is being held at the Malvern Theatres in Grange Road, on Thursday.

Last year, 700 people came to hear representatives from a wide range of artistic industries talk to young people who are interested in the arts.

This year, there will be delegates from BBC Hereford and Worcester radio station, staff from the Worcester College of Technology's art and design department as well as a Worcester News stand, where visitors can learn more about life as a journalist.

Worcester-based company Optillusion FX, which last year caused a stir with a display of prosthetic masks and Doctor Who costumes, will return to discuss working in the special effects industry.

For the first time, there will be the chance to meet members of a local theatre company, professional dancers and a local band who recently clinched a record deal.

Organisers Worcestershire Arts Education hope the event will prove invaluable.

Debbie Poulton, arts education administrator for the county, said there would be an emphasis on interaction.

She said: "There won't just be representatives standing behind stalls. It's really hands-on and a great chance for students who know they want to do something with their creativity but need some direction."

Representatives will help visitors find out about necessarily qualifications, specialist art diplomas, job opportunities and general career paths.

A number of universities and colleges will also attend to offer advice and give information about creative courses.

The fair starts at 1pm and runs until 6pm.
