PLAYERS and staff of Worcester Warriors are set to miss out on their August pay packets.

A leaked email from the club's owners told staff the owners were unable to pay their staff because HMRC has frozen the accounts.

The letter, believed to be sent out by co-owner Colin Goldring, said: "We are conscious of the short window now available for us to solve the end of month payroll situation, no doubt you are all anxiously awaiting an update on payroll and we wanted to keep you as informed as we possibly can.

"As you will all no doubt know, the club's bank accounts were frozen shortly after the HMRC petition was issued meaning we are not able to access those funds to help met payroll.

"Therefore we do not have the money at this moment to fulfil payroll tomorrow.

"Jason and I value everything you have done and continue to do for the club, we have never given up on doing everything in our power to pay salaries tomorrow, the last day of the month.

"We have made some progress on this and had hoped by today we would be able to confirm the funding is secured, but there are no guarantees until contracts are signed and until that happens I'm sorry to say the outcome tomorrow remains uncertain.

"It will be small comfort in the face of the present situation but I can promise we will not give up and will continue pushing the finance raise today and tomorrow, we are giving this everything we've got."

Fans are now pushing for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to step in to help save the club.

Worcester Warriors was issued with a winding-up petition by HMRC last week which has led to widespread worry about the future of the club.

According to Gov.uk, you can apply to the court to close or ‘wind up’ a company if it cannot pay its debts. This is also known as compulsory liquidation.

Colin Goldring and Jason Whittingham, Worcester Warriors owners, said they are "working through a number of options" with advisors to navigate the club through their financial situation.

The club's accounts are currently frozen due to the winding up petition, with the threat of players and staff having to leave the club becoming extremely real if a solution is not found.

The players returned to training last week, not knowing what is going to happen.

Staff also remain out of the loop as confusion and doubt continues to loom over the club.

Robin Walker confirmed meetings took place yesterday, (August 29), between the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and interested parties keen to take over the financially stricken club.
