FESTIVAL-goers are still buzzing after the return of one of the county’s most popular events.

Sunshine Festival took place in Upton over the weekend, with The Human League, Squeeze, Level 42, and Dr Hook just some of the big names taking to the main stage.

There was plenty more to enjoy away from the music including a circus, motorcycle stunt shows, inflatable obstacle courses and cocktails.

Among the many 8,000 attending the festival was Laura Price, who met her partner at the 2019 edition.

“We have come together ever since,” she said.

“We have a fantastic time and find it’s always well managed safe to bring the children too.

“It’s a great choice of music for everyone and we can’t wait to go again next year.”

Another regular, Julie Sheppard, added: “It is just such a joyous event, there is something for everyone of every age.

“I saw a birthday party on the campsite for a five-year-old and then saw the Barrioke crowd, led by Eastenders’ Shaun Williamson, singg happy birthday to an 80-year-old, who I later saw dancing in the Ibiza club tent at midnight.”

Many are already looking forward to next year’s event, including Alison Pearson.

“It’s great to have such an event right on our doorstep and we’ve already booked our tickets for next year!” she said.

Across the weekend, over 100 performers took to the various stages, including the huge team from the local Got 2 Sing group.

Choir leader Cathy Hart said: “Sunshine Festival, you did not disappoint.

“We had over 160 singers from Got 2 Sing choir performing our hearts out.

“We have sung at Sunshine many times before and we felt this was the best yet!”

Also performing was the Lollipop Youth Theatre group, led by owner and director Holly Fields.

“We had a great time performing at the Sunshine Festival this year, it was such a great experience for our young people.

“All of the staff were very helpful, making our first experience at a festival a brilliant one.

“The atmosphere and the audience were amazing and we hope to be back again next year.”

Winchombe-based rock band Erica took to the main stage on Saturday afternoon, their third time appearing at the festival.

Band manager Jez Sprigg said: “It has an incredible family feel, but still feels like a full-on festival.

“We’re always very well looked after and will hopefully keep coming back to entertain the superb crowds.”
