GINGER, frontman of legendary rock band the Wildhearts, will perform in Worcester tomorrow night.

The singer songwriter/guitarist - real name David Walls - comes to the Marr's Bar as part of his long awaited acoustic tour.

The South Shields-born musician, described on the venue's website as a "charismatic lunatic", will be joined by Jase Edwards (formerly of Wolfsbane) and Random Jon Pool (former Wildhearts member).

Hugely influential during the 1990s, Ginger's band the Wildhearts - which he formed after leaving the Quireboys - has a unique sound, labelled by the industry as a mixture of hard rock and melodic pop music.

A kind of Beatles/Metallica hybrid.

The Newcastle-based band have survived a turbulent if not chaotic history littered with numerous line-up changes, bitter record company feuds and countless problems relating to drink and drugs.

Despite the hurdles, the group have achieved a handful of top 20 British chart entries and are generally considered to have been at the forefront of the British rock scene since 1993. Ginger, who has remained the only constant member of the group, has continually worked on side projects - ranging from the band the Clam Abuse with Alex Kane (who released the album Stop Thinking in 1999) to working as a guest vocalist for the Scorchers in mid-2007. His first official foray in a solo career - in 2001 - resulted in the debut album, Valor Del Corazon (Spanish for strength of heart').

It was recorded in Willie Nelson's studio in Texas, released in January 2006 and lauded with praise from the press. His second, Yoni, received similar critical acclaim. The current tour coincides with the release of his latest record, Market Harbour. Tickets to see Ginger at the Marr's Bar are £10 in advance and £12 on the door. Tickets are available from the venue, as well We Got Tickets, Midland Box Office and Aloud.com
