AM I the only person who is fed up with these TV shows where the public share in the audition process for choosing a new star for a West End show?
It was novel the first time but as soon as one is successful, a huge number of similar shows spring up, and immediately, it's overkill.
Interestingly, Simon Bell who played Price Valiant in the Swan Theatre's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs got to the last 30 of the Joseph selection process last year. He felt that once it got to the televised stage, people were staying in the show because they were performing' for the cameras rather than because they would make a good Joseph, which really shouldn't be what it's about.
Much as I hate the type of programme, I fear I shall be watching the new one to get Nancy for Oliver!
Amy Booth Steele, who played the Genie in our recent Aladdin, has reached the last 20, the televised stages. I might dislike the programme, but I shall be watching and wishing her all success in the world.
