A 24-HOUR care service set up by Malvern Hills, Worcester city and Wychavon district councils 21 years ago will soon be run by a group of housing associations.

Members of Malvern Hills District Council executive committee have approved the transfer of Worcestershire Telecare to the Consortium - consisting of the Festival Housing Group/Rooftop/Worcester Community Housing and the Community Housing Group.

The service provides a lifeline in emergencies and peace of mind to thousands of vulnerable and frail people across Worcestershire through alarm systems linked to its control centre operators, based near Malvern, who can then summon help.

All registered social housing landlords in Worcestershire and the surrounding counties were invited to express an interest in taking on Worcestershire Telecare and eventually two detailed bids were submitted.

The district council confirmed the consortium as the preferred bidder and all three councils are now working to complete the transfer by April 1. Worcester City and Wychavon had already accepted the consortium's bid.
