A MAN is annoyed that blocked drains in Droitwich have still not been cleared despite promises from Worcestershire County Council to get them seen to within 10 days of being reported.

Dan Halsall said he reported the drains directly to councillor Derek Prodger more than a month ago but nothing has been done to clear them.

Mr Halsall said there are problems with drains in his road, The Holloway, as well as Miller Street.

"The cabinet member for the environment Derek Prodger said the drains would be done within 10 days of them being reported," he said.

"I have sent him e-mails and reported them but it still hasn't been done.

"It's a bit ridiculous because he said they would be done within 10 days and it's been well over a month now.

"If he can't keep his promises then don't make them."

We reported in your Worcester News in December how Councillor Derek Prodger promised he would sort out any problems reported to him or any other county councillor within 10 days after concerns were raised about the standards of drains in Worcestershire following this summer's flooding.

Mr Halsall said that Coun Prodger had replied to his e-mails saying his reports had been passed on to the highways department.

Coun Prodger said the engineer who deals with drains in Droitwich had been away. He also said drains are put on a priority list depending on the level of urgency they need to be cleared.

"If it is very urgent it takes priority and is done within 24 hours," he said.

"If it's less serious it should be seen within seven days. It might be these drains are not as fierce as he thinks."

We reported in your Worcester News last week how Worcestershire county councillors Peter Pinfield and Edgar Harwood, who represent Droitwich, wants to find out where problems with drains are in the town so they can tell the council's environmental services.

The council already knows about problems in Old Chawson Lane, Westwood Road, Celvestune Way, and Dilmore Avenue.
