A YOUNG family whose home was deemed unsafe and who were without heating or hot water for days, have now been placed back in emergency accommodation.

However, things are looking up for Craig Bennett, his partner Clare Jones, aged 18, and their 18-month-old son Tyler, who have been moved out of a flat in Laslett Street, Rainbow Hill, Worcester, because they may soon have a new home.

As previously reported in your Worcester News, the family had discovered many of their electric sockets were not earthed in the flat, which had been approved by the city council but was privately owned and rented.

Despite being put into emergency accommodation at the beginning of the month for the problem to be rectified by the landlord, when they returned they found they had no heating or hot water.

Now, Mr Bennett, aged 23, has had a meeting with housing officers who decided to place the family back into bed and breakfast accommodation in Warndon.

They now hope to be re-housed with Worcester Community Housing within a year.

"We are very happy with that. Everything has worked out and we can finally get on with life," said Mr Bennett, who is currently searching for a job.

He said he wanted to thank ward councillor Paul Denham for his hard work and the housing team for their help.

Nina Warrington, strategic housing service manager for the city council, said: "It is good to have something nice back. We try to do our best for everyone. I know that it doesn't always seem that way but we are all working towards the same goal."

Coun Denham said: "The city council has a very difficult job to do in housing homeless people because of the severe shortage of accommodation.

"I am please to see that they have now realised the importance of placing people in accommodation which is safe and suitable for their needs."
