A SUNDAY school told they could no longer use a community hall have met up at a new venue.

About 60 children and their parents walked from the Westlands estate to the Royal British Legion in Salwarpe Road after the leaders of the Lighthouse Sunday School were told they were no longer welcome at Westlands Community Hall.

Local taxi firm Blue Door taxis provided flourescent yellow jackets for some of the group to wear so they could be seen by drivers as they crossed a busy roundabout and walked along Kidderminster Road.

The firm has also donated £50 to Lighthouse to buy Easter eggs for the children.

As we reported last week, the group was forced to find the new venue after mediation between the Westlands Community Association, which runs the Hall, and the Lighthouse group broke down.

The two groups have disagreed about contractual matters and how the hall is managed.

Lighthouse leader Linda Hartley said: "We had 60 people and that's good considering everybody had to walk there."

Mrs Hartley said the group had also collected a petition with 470 signatures protesting that the Sunday school plus toddlers group Tiny Treasures and youth club X-stream, which she also runs, could not meet at the hall.

The Association's secretary Keith Hobson declined to comment saying association members had agreed to make no statement about the issue at present.
