A LORRY carrying a load of cooking fat caught fire near Evesham this morning.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire on the A44 near Chadbury Road at 6.30am today.

Crews had to use foam to put out the flames and police were forced to close the road.

The Environment Agency was also called to the scene to assess the damage caused from the cooking fat.

Alec Mackie, spokesman for the fire service, said: "Nobody was hurt and only one vehicle was involved, we do not know what caused the fire but we are looking into that.

"The fire caused a lot of smoke and we had quite a lot of calls to report it."
