THE M5 motorway southbound had to be closed for three hours this morning after a serious accident in which a teenager was airlifted to hospital.
The 100mph smash involving a car and a lorry happened at around 8.30am today between Junction 8 M50 and Junction 9 A46 (Tewkesbury).
The Air Ambulance was called to the scene and took an 18-year-old man to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.
A spokeswoman for the air ambulance said the teenager had a broken leg and dislocated shoulder. "He was very lucky," she said.
The road was re-opened at 11.30am today.
