MOTHERS and toddlers in Droitwich who were told they could no longer use a community hall turned up at their usual session time in protest.

The mums met outside Westlands Community Hall in the estate's precinct to show their support for the group, Tiny Treasures.

The club, which is one of three run by the Lighthouse Sunday school, was told last week to find a new home after mediation between it and the Westlands Community Association, which owns the hall, broke down.

Lisa Degenkolb, of Woodman's Rise, said: "All of my five children use the centre.

"Lily May uses Tiny Treasures on a Friday and Jody, Demi, Peter and Jack use the Sunday school.

"I think it's disgusting.

"The hall is convenient. It's something the children can have for themselves every week and know it's there.

"The children are absolutely gutted. My daughter cried. She doesn't understand what's going on. She's expecting to go in now."

Laura Skillern, of Meadow Court, said she had volunteered to run the club in a bid to get it restarted but had been turned down by the association. She said: "Both of my daughters were very upset when I told them it wasn't running."

Emma Stanley, of Shepherds Close, added: "Ruby is five months old and I've been coming here since she was a bump.

"It's about the only thing I've got in the week to keep me sane." Keith Hobson, the Westlands Community Association's secretary, said: "I'm sorry, I can't comment."

He has previously said the association had asked Lighthouse to find somewhere else after ongoing problems over contractual issues and disagreements about how the hall was managed.

The Sunday school will meet tomorrow at the Royal British Legion Club, Salwarpe Road, but concerns have been raised because youngsters will have to leave the estate and cross a busy road to reach it.
