PLANS for a modern-day version of an ancient mythical structure near the centre of Malvern have taken a step closer to becoming a reality.
The Friends of Malvern Springs and Wells, who first revealed their idea for a Troia labyrinth in Rose Bank Gardens a year ago, have now submitted a planning application for permission to create the feature.
The gardens are owned by Malvern Hills District Council and the friends want to place an eight metre by seven metre ground level labyrinth, made of grey and black granite in an unused part of the gardens.
The aim is to provide a tourist attraction and tribute to Malvern's founding father St Werstan in a part of the town that is currently underused.
Last May representatives from the district council met with the organisers of the Friends of Malvern Springs and Wells Cora Weaver and Bruce Osbourne, and labyrinth expert Jeff Saward.
Ms Weaver said the council seemed to be in favour of the idea as long as it was low maintenance and added it could become a focal point for the gardens and a fun attraction for families.
