A STREET cleaner had a birthday present to remember when shoppers spontaneously sang happy birthday to him on his rounds around Worcester city centre.
Robert Maggs said he was touched by all of the singing and well wishes he received while he worked on his 50th birthday.
Mr Maggs, who has been working for Worcester City Council for about five years, said the singing started in the High Street near the Guildhall but went on all day Thursday.
"It was just surprising that all these people up town started singing happy birthday to me," he said.
"It was great, I just didn't expect it. I got a bit emotional with it being my special 50th birthday and seeing how nice people were.
"I couldn't have asked for a better birthday really."
Mr Maggs, of Warndon, Worcester, said he put birthday badges on the front and back of his coat and even attached a banner to his cart to mark the special occassion.
"It was a big day for me and I would just like to thank my family, work colleagues and the general public," he said.
