SHOPKEEPERS in Pershore are armed with a new handbook to help them combat thieves thanks to a community support officer's bright idea.
Ryan Payne thought of putting together an information pack with pictures of known criminals which could be distributed to traders in the town. It has now been launched in connection with SWAG (South Worcestershire Anti-Crime Group). Shopkeepers who sign up to the SWAG scheme are given a pack containing images of prolific shoplifters, as well as those who may not be so well-known.
The packs also include information about popular scams, frauds, deceptions and ways in which shopkeepers can prevent and reduce crime on their premises.
Mr Payne said: "The scheme has met with a very warm welcome with huge support from shopkeepers. I am so pleased it has been a success and armed people with the knowledge and information to help protect their businesses."
SWAG will be funded by West Mercia Constabulary for six months. When the pilot scheme comes to an end the same service will continue for traders at a cost of £10 each month.
The scheme could eventually be rolled out across the rest of south Worcestershire.
