A busy city centre car park will be closed for most of today for maintenance work.

Pitchcroft car park is closed between 7am and 3pm while the white parking space lines are repainted.

Worcester City Council is repainting the lines in four of its busiest car parks this week.

Parts of Copenhagen Street car park will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday, August 08) from 7am-3pm and some disabled and parent bays at Cornmarket car park will be closed all day.

On Wednesday, Cornmarket car park will be closed from 7am-3pm and on Thursday, it’s the turn of King Street car park, again from 7am-3pm.

Councillor Andy Stafford, chairman of the city council's environment committee, said: “The city council-run car parks are among the most popular in the city, which means they get a lot of wear and tear.

“As a result many of the lines that mark out the parking spaces have faded. With many residents away for the summer holidays, this is the ideal time to get in and repaint those lines.

Alternative parking in Worcester

“We are doing our best to keep disruption to a minimum, so no car park will be closed for more than one day. Anyone who normally uses the affected car parks can find an alternative location to park at www.worcester.gov.uk/parking.”

A small amount of maintenance work will take place over the same period in other car parks, but this will not require any closures.

Pitchcroft and King Street car parks both include a small amount of spaces which are reserved for use by residents in the area.

The city council says it has contacted all these residents and made alternative arrangements for the days when those car parks are closed.

The council is also directly contacting customers who hold long-term parking permits for any of its car parks.

The majority of the city council’s car parks offer disabled spaces.
