A COUPLE who thought they had seen the end of a British Gas blunder were outraged when they received more letters demanding money and threatening disconnection.
Michael and Nicola Collins contacted your Worcester News earlier this year after they had received numerous letters from British Gas over a period of six months. The letters - addressed to Benavon Ltd - were demanding money and threatened the couple with disconnection and warrants to enter their house.
Each time they received a letter they called British Gas to tell them the business, Benavon Ltd, did not exist at their property.
When your Worcester News contacted British Gas it was discovered the continued bombardment of letters was due to a computer error and the problem should not happen again. The couple were told they would not receive any more letters other than an apology letter, but this has not happened.
"I rang British Gas on Friday, February 15, to say I have still not had my letter of apology," said Mrs Collins, aged 42, of Tolladine Terrace, Tolladine, Worcester. "They said they have sent it out. I seem to have received every other bill but not the apology letter."
Since the article in your Worcester News the couple received a letter at the end of January saying: "Have you forgotten to pay your bill?"
Then on Saturday, February 9 they received a bill for £414.09 and on Saturday, February 16 received a letter stating their electricity supply would be disconnected if they did not pay the bill.
A spokeswoman for British Gas said: "I am told the remedial action was completed on Mrs Collin's account on Friday, February 15. The letters received were issued before the action taken on the 15th so they should just be ignored and binned.
"The details are all correct as of Friday, February 15, and no further correspondence of this nature will be arriving with Mrs Collins as advised."
When we contacted Benavon they knew nothing about the issue. Russell Sumner, director, said they used British Gas to supply gas to four houses they built in the Fairway, Tolladine, but when the owners moved in the bill was transferred to them.
