A county football club is being flooded with new members following England’s Euro final win.
Girls from Inkberrow FC were among the 87,192 record crowd at Wembley on Sunday as the Lionesses beat Germany 2-1 in the final of the European Championship.
Since Leah Williamson lifted the trophy, Inkberrow FC has had eleven people come to them looking to join.
Manager Mark Wilkinson said: “Inkberrow has had strong female participation for over ten years and they are hoping that England's success will finally give the game the respect it deserves with more girls getting involved in playing the game.”
On attending the final, he added: “For some of them it was their first experience of visiting the iconic home of football at Wembley Stadium and they have taken some great memories home with them.”
Inkberrow has had five people get in touch about joining the ladies' team and six interested in joining the younger teams.
The club is also involved with the Let Girls Play programme, which aims to improve routes into football by ensuring that 75 per cent of schools provide equal access to football for girls in PE lessons by 2024.
More recently, England Under 19 player Missy Goodwin, currently of Women’s Super League side Leicester City, visited the squad.
Mr Wilkinson added: “She had a great time with some of the girls and was very impressed how much they were all enjoying themselves.”
