Barely a year has passed since England suffered heartbreak at the hands of Italy in the Euro final but now it is the turn of the women to bring football home.
The Lionesses will take on Germany this Sunday in the final of the Women’s Euro 2022.
Sarina Wiegman’s team have impressed throughout the tournament and their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed, with pubs across the county reporting growing crowds as the championships progressed.
Mark Daniels, landlord at the Brewers Arms in St Johns, said: “The support has built up as England have progressed.
“We will be showing the game, as we do with all sports, and are expecting a good turnout. We will have two TVs in the garden and three inside.”
The manager of Anchor Pub & Kitchen on Diglis Road added: “We will have the game on in the Boathouse on the big screen.
“Expecting about 50-odd people. The room was full for the past two games.
“The Lionesses have a great family following!”

Meanwhile, the team at The Craft Inn, on Foregate Street, are particularly excited.
“We’ll be showing the match on Sunday. As we’re a female-led venue we’ve been extremely proud to show a majority of the games recently,” said Sommar Brewing Company marketing manager Kez Handley.
“We expect a large turnout to cheer on our Lionesses!”
Some pubs also have some rather unusual pre-match entertainment planned.
Jon Dean and Will Bradley, owners of the Alma Tavern on Droitwich Road, said: “We have our Family Wrestling Show from 2pm then showing the final of the football straight after.
“Lots of interest and bookings. It could be finally coming home, they’ve done so well and we’re so proud!”
It’s not just in Worcester that excitement is building.
Bar7 in Upton has had to change its plans for the big occasion.
Owner Kyle Hassall said: “We were due to close while we refurb but we have put plans on hold to host the game Sunday night.”
In Evesham, the Valkyrie will be hosting fans for the match.
A staff member said: “I assume we should get a good turnout as it could well be a day to remember if we win, which fingers crossed we do!”
