AN Evesham family have fled their home after a fire broke out in a downstairs room.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to Victoria Avenue, Evesham, just after midday today.
Although five people were in the building at the time, no one was injured. However, firefighters recovered the body of a dog from the two-storey building.
Three fire engines, including two from Evesham and one from Pershore, were sent to tackle the fire which is believed to have started in a ground floor front room and has left parts of the building badly damaged by smoke.
Firefighters used breathing equipment and thermal image cameras to help fight the fire.
There was no working smoke alarm at the house and a spokesman for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service urged people to ensure they had an alarm fitted.
- A daily poll on this website last week found that almost one in five people didn't have a working smoke alarm in their home.
